Air Fryer Home Fries Recipie

Air Fryer Home Fries are crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside, and ready in just 15 minutes. They’re an easy way to make breakfast more delicious, but they’re also great as a side dish for dinner.

I sometimes forget just how tasty potatoes can be, especially when they’re cooked until golden and crispy with a generous sprinkle of salty, smoky seasoning. These home fries turned out wonderfully crisp and were incredibly simple to prepare in the air fryer.

I made these potatoes using my Ninja Air Fryer. I’ve had it for around a year and a half, and it has continued to work reliably, making it one of my go-to kitchen appliances for quick and easy meals.

Why this recipe works

  • Quick: This recipe takes less than 30 minutes from start to finish, making it ideal when you need an easy side dish.
  • Flavorful: The potatoes are coated in a savory blend of seasonings that gives them a delicious, well-rounded flavor.
  • Customizable: Adjust the seasoning to suit your taste. Add extra spice, a touch of sweetness, or more smoky flavor to create your preferred version.
  • Easy side dish: These crispy potatoes pair well with chicken, steak, burgers, tofu, eggs, and many other main dishes.
  • Simple ingredients: You only need a handful of everyday ingredients, many of which you may already have in your kitchen.

Ingredients

Before you begin, wash, measure, and prepare all your ingredients. Having everything ready makes the cooking process easier and more efficient.

Full measurements are provided in the recipe card below.

Potatoes – Yukon Gold, russet, and red potatoes all work well for this recipe. You can also use another variety you already have available.

Paprika – Sweet paprika adds a mild, savory flavor, while smoked paprika gives the potatoes a deeper, smoky taste.

Garlic powder – Garlic powder adds extra savory flavor. Onion powder can also be used if you prefer.

Olive oil – Extra-virgin olive oil works well, but avocado, canola, or vegetable oil can also be used.

Kosher salt – Kosher salt seasons the potatoes nicely. Sea salt or flaky salt are good alternatives.

Black pepper – Use freshly ground or regular ground black pepper according to your preference.

Instructions

Wash the potatoes thoroughly, then cut them into evenly sized pieces about ½ inch thick. Pat them completely dry with a clean kitchen towel or paper towels.

Place the potatoes in a large mixing bowl. Add the olive oil, paprika, garlic powder, black pepper, and kosher salt.

Toss everything together until the potatoes are evenly coated with the oil and seasoning.

Lightly brush or coat the air fryer basket with a small amount of olive oil. Arrange the seasoned potatoes in the basket in an even layer.

Air fry the potatoes at 200°C (400°F) for 15–18 minutes, shaking the basket every 5 minutes to help them cook and brown evenly.

Once the potatoes are golden and crispy on the outside and tender in the center, remove them from the air fryer.

Serve the home fries as a savory breakfast, an easy side dish, or a snack. They’re delicious with ketchup, ranch, mayonnaise, or your favorite dipping sauce.

Expert Tips

  • Cut the potatoes evenly: Try to keep the pieces around the same size so they cook at roughly the same rate.
  • Soak for extra crispiness: For even crispier potatoes, soak the cut pieces in cold water before cooking. This can help remove some surface starch.
  • Dry the potatoes thoroughly: Pat them completely dry after washing or soaking. Excess moisture can prevent them from becoming properly crisp.
  • Use a small amount of oil: A light coating is generally enough. Too much oil can leave the potatoes greasy rather than crispy.
  • Shake the basket: Toss or shake the potatoes every few minutes during cooking to encourage even browning.
  • Avoid overcrowding: Give the potatoes enough space for hot air to circulate. If necessary, cook them in batches rather than filling the basket too tightly.
  • Choose your favorite dip: Serve the finished home fries with ketchup, ranch, mayonnaise, or another sauce you enjoy.
