Lazy Ravioli Lasagna (for Small Families)

Lazy Ravioli Lasagna

This Ravioli Lasagna is a simple shortcut for classic lasagna when you want something comforting without spending hours layering noodles. With cheese ravioli, seasoned ground beef, marinara sauce, and plenty of melted cheese, you can have a hearty family dinner with very little prep. The recipe makes 6 servings and can also be assembled ahead of time, making it a great option for busy evenings.

Ingredients & Substitutions

  • Ground Beef – Lean ground beef works especially well because it leaves very little grease behind. For a different flavor, you can replace it with Italian sausage.
  • Italian Seasoning – This gives the beef an easy blend of herbs without needing to measure several individual seasonings.
  • Marinara Sauce – Any favorite marinara or pasta sauce will work. Choose a sauce with a flavor and thickness you already enjoy.
  • Refrigerated Cheese Ravioli – Cheese-filled refrigerated ravioli keeps this recipe quick and easy. Frozen ravioli can also be used with a slightly longer baking time.

How to Make Lasagna Ravioli Bake

Step 1 | Brown the Ground Beef

Add the ground beef and Italian seasoning to a large skillet over medium-high heat. Cook until the beef is completely browned, breaking it into small pieces as it cooks. Drain any excess grease if necessary.

Step 2 | Assemble the Ravioli Lasagna

Spread about one-quarter of the marinara sauce across the bottom of your baking dish. Add half of the ravioli, followed by half of the cooked beef and ½ cup of cheese. Add another portion of the sauce, then layer in the remaining ravioli. Finish with the rest of the beef, sauce, and cheese, spreading everything evenly.

Step 3 | Bake

Place the assembled ravioli lasagna in the oven and bake for 30–35 minutes. It should be hot and bubbling around the edges, with the cheese completely melted. Allow it to sit for a few minutes before slicing and serving.

Using Frozen Ravioli

Frozen ravioli works well if that’s what you have available. Since the ravioli starts frozen, you’ll need to extend the baking time by about 10–15 minutes. Cover the dish with foil for the first 25 minutes, then remove the foil and continue baking until the lasagna is hot, bubbly, and the cheese is melted.

Make It Ahead of Time!

You can prepare the entire dish up to one day before baking. Assemble the layers, cover the baking dish tightly, and store it in the refrigerator. When you’re ready to cook, bake it directly from the refrigerator and add approximately 5–10 extra minutes to the baking time.

  • 1 25 oz jar marinara sauce
  • 20 oz package refrigerated cheese ravioli — I like Rana 4 Cheese Ravioli
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F.
  2. In a large skillet over medium-high heat, add the ground beef and Italian seasoning. Cook until browned and no longer pink, breaking it up as it cooks.
  3. Assemble the lasagna in a 9×9-inch baking dish in this order:
    • Spread ¼ of the marinara sauce on the bottom.
    • Add half the ravioli in a single layer.
    • Add half of the cooked ground beef.
    • Sprinkle with ½ cup mozzarella cheese.
    • Spoon another ¼ of the sauce on top.
    • Add the remaining ravioli in a single layer.
    • Top with the rest of the beef and pour on the remaining sauce.
    • Finish with the remaining 1½ cups mozzarella cheese.
  4. Bake for 30–35 minutes, until bubbly and the cheese is melted.
  5. Let it rest for 5–10 minutes before slicing and serving.

Notes

Using frozen ravioli: Add an extra 10–15 minutes to the bake time, and cover the dish loosely with foil for the first 25 minutes so the top doesn’t overbrown before the ravioli cooks through. Then uncover and bake until hot and bubbly.

Make it ahead: You can assemble this up to a day in advance. Cover and refrigerate, then bake when ready. Add 5–10 minutes to the bake time if it is going straight from the fridge to the oven.
